A defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently examining the potential security risks associated with Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about secret information in any vehicles.
Security Advice for Defence Personnel
During a recent interview on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to discuss secret material while riding in Chinese vehicles.
The minister stated that the ministry is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but noted that safety is a issue in all contemporary cars.
We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about safety.
After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”
Broader Defence Background
This revelation follows claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to disable buses and bring chaos to public transit.
Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been shining laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.
The broader security situation underscores the significance of robust measures and vigilance in all areas of government activities, from vehicle usage to discussions habits.
