Prince William Set to Attend COP30 Climate Summit in South America
Prince William is scheduled to attend the United Nations climate conference in South America next month, as announced by royal officials.
Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday night at a gathering ahead of the environmental conference, which is scheduled to take place in the northern Brazilian city of Belém.
The royal pair were present at the museum gathering, marking an noteworthy combined presence at a pre-COP30 gathering co-hosted by the British authorities.
Climate Leadership Dedication
King Charles has been a long-time champion of environmental conservation - and Prince William has assumed the responsibility, with his own Earthshot awards, which will be held in Brazil ahead of the UN meeting.
Royal sources have described William's involvement at the next COP as taking on an significant responsibility in "climate diplomacy".
Recent Engagements
The monarch and his heir, arriving together in the royal vehicle, were welcomed guests including environmentalists, scientists, environmental activists, diplomats and government officials.
This involvement involved presentations in concert with President Emmanuel Macron of France and other global statesmen at the Ocean Finance Summit in the Principality of Monaco earlier this year.
Earthshot Awards Connection
The COP30 summit will dovetail with the William's personal climate innovation prizes, which will conclude in Rio de Janeiro the eve of he joins the climate conference on 6 November.
Last week the prince characterized the Earthshot finalists as "heroes of our time".
Royal Climate Legacy
King Charles has been a prominent presence at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the reminder: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a significant amount of my life trying to warn of the survival risks challenging our world over climate change, climate change and ecological decline," the King told participants.
